Time: 5:30-7:00pm
Location: APASA Center (104 Nugent)
These workshops are geared for any student with any major. TARGET professionals will be leading the workshop, giving professional advice and tools that can be utilized in your personal and career development. This year, APASAbilities will be a certificate program that occurs once a month. Students participating in 3 or more workshops will earn a certificate of completion and have FREE ENTRANCE to and recognition at our Lotus Laureate Celebration at the end of the year. Included with APASAbilities is the opportunity for internships, professional mentors & advisors, and even FREE GIFTS and FOOD!

OCA APIA U: LEADERSHIP 101 TRAINING
The interactive college leadership training session will involve hands-on exercises, small group discussions, and presentations led by two qualified APIA facilitators. The 1.5 day training will assemble 60 students from each region to focus on self-awareness, team-building, and direct action organizing. Participants will be asked to challenge themselves, share their experiences, and develop leadership tools in order to effectively serve as catalysts for change. There is no charge to attend the training session, and it is open to all college students from any school. All meals will be provided. Register here NOW! Session is limited to only 60 people!

“Flag Wars” Film Screening
Time: 6:00pm
Location: Nugent Building, Room 205
Flag Wars is a poignant account of the politics and pain of gentrification. Working-class black residents in Columbus, Ohio fight to hold on to their homes. Realtors and gay home-buyers see fixer-uppers. The clashes expose prejudice and self-interest on both sides, as well as the common dream to have a home to call your own.

In The Business of Fancydancing, Seymour Polatkin is a successful, gay Indian poet from Spokane who confronts his past when he returns to his childhood home on the reservation to attend the funeral of a dear friend. Based upon Sherman Alexie's book of poetry of the same name.

The Day My God Died—Film and Discussion

This film presents the stories of young girls who describe the day they were sold into sexual servitude as “the day my God died.” We see footage from the brothels of Bombay and learn about non-profit organizations that help these girls and women.

Stereotypes and Violence: Examining the Model Minority Myth

connections these images have to the issue of sexual violence.

Rethinking Race: Examining the Multiracial Experience

Where do multiracial people fit into a monoracially-designed society?  Dr. Kelly Jackson, presents her research on multiracial identity development followed by a facilitated discussion on “rethinking race” to include the experiences of multiracial individuals.
